Education Resource Centre:
A library and internet for Mondesa Youth Opportunities, an afterschool center that fosters intellect and growth.
Introductions
An afterschool enrichment program for 130 youth grades four through ten, the program operates five days per week,
from 1pm to 5pm providing lunch, counseling, academic lessons, computer classes, sports activities, and music/art courses.
They aim to challenge intelligent children and foster their growth, training Namibia's next generation of leaders.
The Change
However, the nonfiction section of their library is severely lacking, forcing the children to choose between adequate
learning and research and walking a potentially dangerous 3 miles (over 50 football fields) to get to the nearest library.
Our Bright Ideas Grant will provide a collection of 64 highschool-level books on such subjects as Business, Education,
Health, Natural and Social Sciences--the mainstay of which is the The Britannica Illustrated Science Library which
contains an additional 16 volumes specifically requested by the group.
Further, we aim to provide internet access to their computer lab of 10 so that the children can make use of the vast pool of resources available on the internet.
